Okinawa Regional Customs filed a complaint with the Naha District Public Prosecutors Office on the 17th against a 45-year-old Egyptian National living in Uruma City on suspicion of violating the Customs Act by attempting to smuggle 5.94 grams of methamphetamine (with a street value of about 400,000 yen) and 1.43 grams of marijuana (valued at about 15,000 yen).

According to the customs authorities, the suspect departed from Egypt on November 28, passed through China, and arrived at Naha Airport on the 29th. During a baggage inspection, customs officers found the drugs divided into small portions and concealed inside a plastic bottle within his suitcase.

The Tomigusuku Police Station arrested the suspect on November 30 on suspicion of violating the Stimulants Control Act (importation). During questioning, the suspect reportedly denied the charges, stating, “I didn’t think methamphetamine was in there.”
