It has emerged that an American man claiming to be a screenwriter was arrested in November this year on suspicion of attempting to smuggle the synthetic drug MDMA.

Jeremy Harris, a 36-year-old American national who describes himself as a screenwriter and actor, has been arrested on suspicion of violating the Narcotics Control Act.

According to police, Harris is suspected of attempting to smuggle 0.78 grams of crystal containing MDMA into the country concealed inside a tote bag upon his arrival at Naha Airport from Taiwan on November 16.

The police have not disclosed whether Harris has admitted or denied the allegations, citing concerns that doing so would impede the investigation.

Harris is believed to be a renowned playwright whose work has been nominated for the Tony Awards, considered the highest honor in American theater.
