An unemployed 59-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of stealing a large number of toy cars from a shopping mall in Kitami City, Hokkaido.
The suspect, Masao Hiratsuka, is a resident of Kitami City. He is suspected of shoplifting 79 toy items, including miniature cars, worth approximately 70,000 yen from a nearby shopping mall between November of last year and January of this year.
During questioning, Hiratsuka admitted to the charges, stating, “I like cars, so I shoplifted a lot.”
Police are continuing their investigation into any additional offenses.
