On the 3rd, the Kyoto Prefectural Police and the Shimogamo Police Station arrested a 39-year-old woman, an executive of a metal recycling company in Kyoto City, and her 40-year-old husband, a company employee, on suspicion of violating the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act.

The two are suspected of illegally employing three Chinese men at a metal recycling company’s factory in Ohara, Sakyo Ward, from January last year to January this year. The men had entered Japan under the “Engineering, Humanities, and International Services” visa, which is intended for specialized professions, but were made to work as sorting workers without obtaining permission for activities outside their residency status.

The police have not disclosed whether the two suspects admit or deny the charges.
