A martial artist, Kimura “Philip” Minoru, was apprehended for possession of marijuana. He reportedly told authorities that he had purchased the substance at a train station on the same day of his arrest. Kimura, age 31, had been carrying a liquid suspected to contain marijuana and plant fragments when stopped by police at a station in Nishitokyo, Tokyo. The plant material was later confirmed as marijuana, while the liquid is still being analyzed.

Kimura’s gym is cooperating with authorities to verify the facts of the case. He was scheduled to compete in a martial arts event the following day, but the organizers have since canceled his participation.
