On the 26th, the Gifu Chuo Police Station arrested a 29-year-old Brazilian National working in construction and residing in Aichi Prefecture, on suspicion of drinking and driving.
The suspect is accused of driving a passenger car under the influence of alcohol on National Route 156 in Gifu City, at around 7:05 AM on the 26th.
According to the police, a woman reported to 110 that a car had stopped at a road junction. When officers arrived, they found the vehicle had collided with a cushion drum. Detecting the smell of alcohol from the suspect, they conducted a breath test, which confirmed alcohol levels exceeding the legal limit.
The Brazilian still denies the charges.
