A 65-year-old woman has been arrested in Kawasaki City on suspicion of abusing and neglecting 8 cats in an unsanitary environment, and the case is being considered as an incident of multiple animal neglect.

The woman in question, Yuko Karasawa, who is currently unemployed, is suspected of mistreating the cats by keeping them in unsanitary conditions, including feces and neglected bodies, in her condominium in Takatsu Ward, Kawasaki City in July of this year.

According to the police, Karasawa had 38 cats in a room of about 10 tatami mats, and 8 of them were found in a weakened state. Ten of the cats were discovered dead and left unattended. The incident came to light after residents of the condominium reported through a 110 emergency call that there were numerous cats in poor condition in the common corridor, emitting a foul odor.

Karasawa has reportedly admitted to the allegations during police questioning. Authorities are investigating this case as an instance of multiple animal neglect.
