A 24-year-old woman from Tokyo was arrested on suspicion of assault, for allegedly lacing a drink with drugs and give it to a woman on the streets of Naha in Okinawa.
The arrest is based on the suspicion that, between 6:40 PM and 8:55 PM on January 25, 2024, the woman gave a commercial beverage mixed with a sleep-inducing drug to a female colleague at the time, causing her to experience transient consciousness impairment and acute drug intoxication. The victim showed symptoms such as unsteadiness and slurred speech but recovered shortly after being hospitalized. The incident came to light when the woman consulted with the police in February of the same year.
