A Vietnamese technical intern trainee woman in her 20s, working at a farm in Fukuoka Prefecture, reported to the Fukuoka Prefectural Police that she was subjected to sexual violence, including having her chest and lower abdomen touched by her employer, a male farm owner. It was revealed on the 24th that her report had been accepted. The matter has also been conveyed to the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare and the Ministry of Justice, with the supervising body, the Organization for Technical Intern Training, responding to the situation.
According to the NPO “Japan-Vietnam Friendship Support Association” (based in Tokyo), which supports the woman and other trainees, the woman arrived in Japan in early July and began working in August at a farm in the southern part of the prefecture, cultivating chrysanthemums. From the time she started working, the male employer reportedly said things like “I’ll give you money, so let’s go to a hotel,” and during work, touched her chest and lower abdomen or removed her underwear.
