Japanese national and self-proclaimed Yakuza leader, Takashi Ebisawa (60), has garnered global attention for accusations of attempting to sell nuclear material. U.S. authorities revealed photos of Ebisawa with a radiation detector alongside a black substance containing uranium and high-quality plutonium suitable for nuclear weapons. Contrary to his alleged Yakuza ties, Japanese investigative authorities describe Ebisawa as an agricultural enthusiast with no connection to domestic organized crime. Ebisawa is set to make his initial court appearance soon.

According to U.S. authorities’ analysis, the black substance contained nuclear materials such as uranium and plutonium. Notably, the plutonium quality was deemed suitable for nuclear weapons if produced in quantity.
