Masamitsu Beppu (24) and Shotaro Morikawa (24), both homeless and affiliated yakuza members, were arrested for defrauding 29 million yen worth of gold bars from an elderly person.

According to the report, the two individuals allegedly conspired with another individual and made phone calls to an 80-something year old woman living in Minato-ku, pretending to be her son. They told her “I lost my bag,” and “I can’t withdraw the money needed for a school event, can you lend it to me?”

Through this deception, they swindled 4 kilograms of gold bars worth 29 million yen and 600,000 yen in cash. The police have already arrested a teenage boy who acted as a “receiver.”
