Four people, including teenagers were arrested on suspicion of using and handling illegal drugs.
According to the police, a construction worker, 17, and an interior decorator, 18 were arrested on suspicion of using drugs in September 2023, following a questioning by police. An investigation into the two men led to the emergence of a man believed to have handed over the drugs. A 20 year-old man (19 years old at the time of the offense), and a part-time shop assistant were arrested on suspicion of handing over a small quantity of drugs to the two men in Niigata City.
Furthermore, a self-employed man, 23, was arrested on suspicion of passing drugs to the 20 year-old man for profit.
The self-employed man partially denies the charges, saying that he is sure he gave the drugs, but not for the purpose of making a profit. The other three men admitted to the charges.
The four were also re-arrested on August 14 for having a small amount of cannabis. The four are friends and acquaintances.
Police have said they will step up crackdowns and call on students to prevent the spread of illegal drugs among the younger generation.
