A South Korean high school student committed a sex crime while visiting Japan, sparking widespread criticism. In response, Professor Seo Kyung-duk of Sungshin Women’s University condemned the act as a “national disgrace” and called for severe punishment.
According to Japanese media, an 18-year-old South Korean man was arrested near a hotel in Osaka on January 24 while traveling with two friends. He allegedly hugged and touched a local female high school student inappropriately at a bus stop. Reports indicate that he admitted to the charges during police questioning.
The incident has led to strong backlash in Japan, with accusations like “Did he come to Japan just to commit a sex crime?” It has also drawn criticism within South Korea.
Professor Seo stated on social media, “This is truly a national disgrace. If deported to Korea, he should face severe punishment as a warning to prevent future incidents.” He also urged South Korean travelers to maintain proper etiquette abroad, avoiding graffiti in Korean or disruptive drunken behavior.
