Peruvian National Arrested for Defrauding the Government

A 51-year-old self-employed Peruvian National living in Shimmata Minami, Kakegawa City. According to the police, the woman, who sought to deceive the government, used the “Emergency Employment Stabilization Subsidy Program,” which was aimed at supporting businesses that were forced to scale back their activities due to the pandemic. Between August and December 2020, she submitted fraudulent applications for subsidies by claiming to pay furlough benefits to non-existent employees at her restaurant, thereby receiving subsidies multiple times.

The amount of fraudulently obtained subsidy is said to total approximately 3.5 million yen.

In December 2021, the Shizuoka Labor Bureau, suspicious of the situation, consulted with the police, leading to an investigation.
