Wong Kah Fei (26), a Malaysian national, who works as a part-time teacher at a junior high school in Osaka Prefecture, was arrested on suspicion of theft.
According to the police, Wong joined a basketball club practice in Takatsuki City. While other members were practicing, he allegedly stole 50,000 yen in cash and two credit cards from multiple bags.
The stolen credit cards are believed to have been fraudulently used. Police also stated that Wong used a fake name to participate in the basketball practice.
During questioning, Wong partially denied the charges, saying, “I took the credit cards, but I don’t know anything about the cash.”
Similar theft cases have been occurring in the area, and police are investigating whether he is connected to other related crimes.
