10kg of Meth Seized at Kansai Airport, Malaysian Arrested

A Malaysian man has been arrested and charged for attempting to smuggle approximately 10 kilograms of methamphetamine in two suitcases.

The individual, identified as Dera Tam Kin Kuan (31), who is a self-employed Malaysian national, has been arrested and charged with violating drug trafficking laws.

According to the police, on September 18th, Dera was apprehended at Kansai Airport when he arrived from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He had attempted to smuggle around 10 kilograms of methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of approximately 614 million yen, concealed in two suitcases with hidden compartments.

This case is one of seven drug smuggling incidents involving travelers at Kansai Airport this year, with six of them originating from Malaysia. Customs officials had heightened vigilance, and this smuggling attempt was detected during a routine inspection at the airport.
