Yuichiro Tamaki, 55, a representative of the National Democratic Party, held a press conference in Tokyo on November 11, where he admitted to having an affair with a former idol, as reported in a web article in a weekly magazine.
He had told his wife everything and that she had reprimanded him for what he was doing at such an important time.
When asked if he was in a dating relationship, he answered “I told my wife everything. It is a private matter so I hope you understand that the details are a family affair”.
The private meeting with the woman mentioned in the article took place after the October 27 lower house election. Reflecting on his actions during a time when he held a decisive vote following his success in the election, he admitted he may have gotten carried away. He acknowledged the need for self-reflection and expressed his intention to exercise more self-discipline moving forward.
Before the press conference, he discussed the situation with the party’s board of directors, apologized to his colleagues for any trouble caused, and outlined his approach to addressing the matter.
On the day of the special parliamentary session, he headed to the Diet building for a press conference following a 9 A.M. meeting between party leaders and Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. The issue was not addressed during the meeting.
According to an article published by FLASH, Tamaki allegedly had an affair with TV personality Miyuki Koizumi, a 39-year-old former idol and Takamatsu City Tourism Ambassador, in his hometown of Kagawa Prefecture. By that time, her social media accounts had already been deleted.
