In South America’s largest city, São Paulo, a Japanese man was the victim of a robbery and was killed. Local police announced they had apprehended the suspect who fled the scene.
According to Brazilian media, on the 24th in the eastern part of São Paulo, Susumu Fukudome (78), was walking with his wife and grandson, and was approached by a man demanding money. After refusing, he was shot and killed.
The man fled the scene after stealing the wife’s bag, but on the 26th, police announced they had apprehended him.
It is reported that a security camera recorded the entire incident.
The man has admitted to the charges but stated he committed the crime with another individual. The police are continuing their investigation.
São Paulo is home to one million people of Japanese descent, the largest such community in the world.
