Japanese Fugitive Arrested in Philippines

A Japanese man wanted on a warrant for defrauding nearly 3 million yen through a fraudulent phone call about rights to enter a nursing home was apprehended while on the run in the Philippines.

The Philippine immigration authorities announced on the 5th that they had taken Japanese national Tetsuya Yokota (39) into custody.

Yokota was discovered on the 2nd at a commercial facility in Manila and was apprehended by the authorities.

Yokota is suspected of making false phone calls claiming, “Transferring rights to enter a nursing home is a crime,” and defrauding a victim of 2.75 million yen in cash. A warrant had been issued in Japan for his arrest.

The immigration authorities are proceeding with arrangements for his deportation to Japan.
