Japanese and Turkish Nationals Arrested for Smuggling Cocaine via Boat

Eight men were arrested for possession of cocaine at a fishing port in Chiba Prefecture. They are believed to have received cocaine from a foreign vessel off the coast of Chiba, and the full details of the smuggling case are being investigated.

According to the third Regional Coast Guard Headquarters, eight men ranging from their 20’s to 60’s, including Japanese and Turkish Nationals, were arrested and charged with possessing approximately 1.2 kg of cocaine for commercial purpose at the Aohama fishing port in Tateyama City, Chiba in May.

The eight men are believed to have used a pleasure boat to receive cocaine from a foreign trading ship at sea off the coast of Chiba Prefecture, and were arrested in a fishing port as they were transferring it to their vehicle.

About 178 kg of cocaine with a terminal value of over 4.4 billion yen was seized from a pleasure boat and a car, and the third Regional Coast Guard Headquarters is working to uncover the full extent of the smuggling case.
