In January of 2023, an Israeli man in his 50’s died attempting to smuggle approximately 1 kilogram of drugs, including methamphetamine, by ingesting them at Haneda Airport. The Tokyo Metropolitan Police’s Drug and Firearm Countermeasures Division filed documents for the deceased suspect on January 8, citing violations of the Stimulants Control Law (attempted profit-driven import). This information was revealed through interviews with sources close to the investigation.

According to investigators, on January 2, 2023, the man ingested about 1 kilogram of stimulants, including methamphetamine and cocaine, wrapped in a substance similar to plastic wrap, with the intention of smuggling them through Haneda Airport. Upon arriving at Haneda Airport on a flight from France, the man collapsed inside the aircraft and was confirmed dead at the hospital where he was transported.
