Around 11:30 PM, a report was made to police stating, “A man is hitting a woman” on a street in Yoyogi, Shibuya.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, a woman in her 20’s who was walking nearby was suddenly attacked by the man with a knife, sustaining dozens of cuts to her head and hands. She fled to a nearby convenience store and was later taken to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with serious injuries that will take about a month to heal.
The suspect, a 19-year-old student of a part-time high school, who claims to reside in Shibuya and is of Chinese nationality, reportedly told police, “I wanted to kill someone. I’ve felt that way for about a year and brought a knife from home.”
