In February, on an internet message board, a third-generation Korean resident of Japan, Ms. Choi Kangiko (51), who is the director of the “Kawasaki City Fureaikan” cultural exchange facility, was targeted in hate speech, including statements like “Get out of Japan.” On the 17th, the Kanagawa Prefectural Police’s Kawasaki Rinko Station sent a teenage boy from Chiba Prefecture to the prosecutor’s office on suspicion of insult, according to interviews with the police and other sources.
The boy is suspected of creating a thread titled “Who do you think you are? Get out of Japan!” on the message board between February 21 and 23, thus insulting Ms. Choi.
Ms. Choi and others filed a criminal complaint for insult in March. According to sources, the thread contained about 200 discriminatory comments.
