In the early hours of the 29th in Shinjuku, Tokyo, a man of French nationality was arrested for assaulting a 67-year-old man, who later died from his injuries.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the suspect, self-identified as Laforêt Alexandre Mathieu, allegedly pushed Akihiko Nogami with both hands on a street in Kabukicho, Shinjuku, causing Nogami to sustain injuries. Nogami hit his head hard, was taken to the hospital, but was later confirmed dead.

Mathieu had no prior acquaintance with Nogami. The incident occurred when Nogami was walking with a female restaurant employee, and Mathieu, who was intoxicated, approached and a confrontation ensued.

Mathieu denies the allegations, claiming he does not remember anything about the incident.
