Female Driver Arrested for Hitting 6-Year Old and Driving Off

A female nurse was arrested on suspicion of hitting a 6-year-old kindergarten child with a passenger car and fleeing the scene. The woman reportedly stated, “I heard some kind of noise while driving.”

The arrested suspect is Mariko Murakami (59), a nurse from Kumamoto City.

According to the police, around 10:30 a.m. on March 26th, Murakami was driving a passenger car on a municipal road in Kawachimachi. As she attempted to turn right from a parking lot onto the road, she hit a kindergarten child who was on the street, causing injuries, and then fled the scene.

The child suffered a serious injury, fracturing their left thigh. At the time of the accident, the child was on a walk with a teacher and several other kindergarten children.

Through witness interviews and security camera footage, the police identified Murakami as the suspect. During questioning, she reportedly stated, “I heard some kind of noise while driving.” The police are continuing their investigation.
