Five suspects, including company director Yuki Fujiwara, 43, and dentist Asahi Oishi, 61, are suspected of using the health insurance card of 64 international students and other people to pretend to have provided them with dental treatment in June last year and swindled out of approximately 1.65 million yen in medical fees from Nagoya City and other municipalities.
According to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police, the suspects fraudulently obtained information on insurance cards when they conducted free medical check-ups at Japanese language schools, and used the information to create false medical fee statements. The Tokyo Police Department is investigating the case as they believe that they defrauded around 20 million yen by using the same method.
