A composer and two others were arrested on suspicion of attempting to smuggle cannabis from the US.

The suspects are Naou Yamashita, 26, a composer from Naha City, Okinawa, and two male high school classmates.

According to the police, the three are suspected of violating the Cannabis Control Act by attempting to smuggle about one gram of cannabis plants from the USA last July. The three have admitted the charges.

In July of last year, four men in Aichi Prefecture contacted the police saying they had received “unfamiliar mail.” Three of them were sent methamphetamine.

The four individuals who received the mail had the same name, and it’s believed that Yamashita mistakenly thought his own song had been plagiarized and sent illegal drugs to a person with the same name as the composer, aiming to “have them arrested and stop their musical activities.”

The police are investigating the sources along with other details.
