A Chinese National was arrested, but not prosecuted, for evading consumption tax after purchasing game consoles for resale. The man is a 46-year-old who conspired with two other Chinese Nationals to purchase 61 items, including gaming consoles, at a shopping mall. He allegedly concealed the intent to resell the items in Japan while applying for tax exemption, thereby fraudulently avoiding the payment of ¥40,644 in consumption tax.

On March 31, the Nagoya District Public Prosecutors Office dropped the charges against all involved.

While the prosecution did not disclose the reason for the decision, the man had denied the charges during police questioning at the time of his arrest, stating, “I have no involvement at all, so I don’t know anything about it.”
