Brazilian National Arrested for Driving Onto Train Tracks

A Brazilian man was arrested in Suzuka City, Mie Prefecture, after a car driven under the influence of alcohol entered the railway tracks. The Kintetsu Nagoya Line temporarily suspended operations.

According to the police, around 5:20 p.m. on the 7th, a witness called 110 to report, “A car entered the tracks and stopped” in Higashi-Isobe, Suzuka City.

The police detected alcohol on the breath of Sergio Masanobu Taira, a 63-year-old unemployed Brazilian National who was near the scene, and arrested him on suspicion of drunk driving.

Taira’s car is believed to have entered the tracks after colliding with parked cars in a parking lot.

During questioning, Taira denied the allegations, stating, “I drank alcohol, but I wasn’t driving. It was my wife who was driving.”

The Kintetsu Nagoya Line temporarily suspended operations on certain sections, affecting about 15,000 passengers.
