A Cambodian National, Chon Sokny (30), who was arrested in connection with a hit-and-run case involving gunshots, was re-arrested on the 5th on suspicion of a hit-and-run and other charges for causing a collision during his escape, seriously injuring a man, and fleeing the scene.
According to the police, Chon allegedly drove a passenger car without a license on a city road in Ryūji, Kai City, and collided with another vehicle at an intersection. He then abandoned his car and fled the scene. The driver of the other vehicle, a 51-year-old man at the time, suffered a serious injury, breaking a bone in his chest.
During questioning, Chon admitted to the charges.
Just before the accident, Chon had been waiting at a traffic light on a side road of National Route 20 in Ryūō, Kai City, when police officers, conducting a traffic violation inspection, ordered him to step out of his car. However, he refused to comply, started moving his vehicle, and collided with a police car. While fleeing, officers fired five gunshots at him.
On February 13, the police had already arrested Chon on suspicion of obstructing official duties and other charges.
