The country’s largest cannabis weed cultivation plant has been busted. Six Vietnamese men and women were arrested for cultivating and possessing approximately 2,000 cannabis plants worth 500 million yen.

A 450-square-mater warehouse in Koga, Ibaraki Prefecture, was used as one of the largest cannabis weed trafficking factories in Japan. The interior was equipped with lights and blowers for cultivation, and was surrounded by white boards, perhaps to prevent it from being seen from the outside.

Police arrested six male and female Vietnamese national, including Dinh Trung Phong, 32, on suspicion of breaching the Cannabis Control Act. The six were suspected of growing and possessing cannabis for sale at the warehouse in April of this year.

The suspects are believed to be a cannabis trafficking group, and approximately 1,500 cannabis plants were found in the warehouse in Koga, and they were also growing cannabis in Kazo, Saitama Prefecture and Noda, Chiba Prefecture.

The police seized approximately 2,000 cannabis plants with a value worth 500 million yen, and are investigating the trafficking group’s actual situation and the distribution route of the cannabis plants.
