Six Vietnamese men have been arrested for shoplifting supplements from a drugstore in Miyagi Prefecture. Reports of similar thefts have been filed nationwide, totaling around 180 cases, and investigative teams from 10 prefectural police departments suspect further offenses.
The six Vietnamese Nationals were arrested on suspicion of theft and other charges. According to the police, the suspects conspired to steal 17 supplement items from a drugstore in Kurihara City, in April 2024. Additionally, in June 2024, they allegedly stored 15 stolen items, including painkillers, in an apartment in Ibaraki Prefecture, knowing they were stolen by someone else.
During questioning, two of the men admitted to the charges, while four denied involvement.
Police reports indicate that around 180 similar theft cases have been reported at drugstores nationwide. Investigation teams from 10 prefectural police departments, including Miyagi, Hyogo, and Kochi, suspect the stolen items were intended for resale and are continuing to investigate further offenses.
