On the Amami Oshima island of Okinawa, three Chinese Nationals were arrested for posessing thousands of coconut crabs, designated as a national treasure of Japan. The three were Liao Zhiwu (24), Zong Zhenhao (26), and Guo Jiawei (27).
According to reports, they had 160 kilograms worth of crabs, and did not have permission or legitimate reason for its possession.
According to curator Tatsuya Heijo of the Amami Museum, the coconut crab is designated a national natural treasure in Japan, and it is forbidded to collect or even touch them without approval from the Commissioner of the Agency of Cultural Affairs.
