Suspects Shoki Ishikawa (32) and Tomonari Yachi (22), who had been detained by Thai authorities on suspicion of illegal stay, were handed over to Aichi police this morning at an airport near Bangkok.
According to Thai authorities, the two men are believed to have been working at the same special fraud base along the Myanmar border as another 16-year-old Japanese boy. The two were reportedly acting as kakeko—the people who make scam phone calls.
They also told authorities that they were detained by a Chinese-affiliated criminal organization running the fraud base and claimed to have been subjected to violence, including electric shocks.
Aichi police plan to formally arrest the two on fraud charges while they are aboard the transfer flight and will investigate further into the inner workings of the fraud operation.
