A 17-year-old by was arrested for swindling two 80-year-old women out of 2 million yen and an additional 1.3 million yen.
The boy is a self-proclaimed demolition worker living in Tokyo. According to investigations, the kid is a member of a fraud group.
To accomplish the fraud, the boy called the two women living in Kikugawa City and Fukuroi City, impersonating their son or grandson and saying “I urgently need cash.”
A “receiver” from the group then visited the women’s homes and swindled around 3.3 million yen in total.
Police believe the boy acted as a recruiter, using social media to lure others, and is suspected in multiple other fraud cases.
