On March 10, 2025, the Hakodate Central Police Station arrested a 15-year-old high school boy from Kitakami City on suspicion of computer fraud.
The boy is suspected of unlawfully obtaining the ID and password of mobile phones contracted by others living in Hakodate and Sapporo. Posing as the legitimate users, he allegedly added extra phone lines to their contracts.
Using these fraudulently obtained phone lines, he is accused of sending virtual items to a live-streaming account that he operated under a false name, thereby gaining financial benefits
During questioning, the boy admitted, saying, “I believe what I did was wrong.” The boy had already been arrested in connection with another case, and police are continuing their investigation into possible additional offenses.
