Four individuals, including suspects Karandai Liza Agapito (29) and Uema Tsubasa (38), have been apprehended for their involvement in a falsified marriage scheme aimed at obtaining residency status. The group is accused of submitting fraudulent marriage documents to the Adachi Ward Office in Tokyo in May of last year.

According to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police, Agapito sought advice from a coworker at the pub where she worked, identified as Aiza Ana Risationson (49), on how to obtain the right to work in Japan. Risationson allegedly suggested the strategy of posing as a Japanese spouse.

Following this, Agapito reportedly approached Uema, a customer at the pub, with a request to engage in a fraudulent marriage agreement. The deal involved paying Uema ¥50,000 per month for a period of five years.

This arrest sheds light on the illicit activities surrounding attempts to exploit marriage laws for gaining residency privileges in Japan.
